There are many translations of the Heart Sutra with subtle variations from the different Mahayana Buddhist schools. For many years, I chanted a version that I learned at the American Zen College (AZC) in Germantown, Maryland. When I founded OZS, I wanted an English translation that would be true to the Heart Sutra's original meaning and also universal in its appeal to practitioners. However, I was attached to certain parts of the AZC version due to familiarity, so I changed some of the wording (using AZC's synonyms) from the original translation. I now realize that making those changes was not the best choice and that most of the original wording is better. I have the updated version on the website. This minor revision feels much better and true. I have been somewhat conflicted about my original edits for a while now, so I am happy to have finally come to a clear resolution.

Our job is really to see cause and effect as it truly is and use this quarantine situation to get rid of all our illusions and preconceptions – if we don’t, we are not using the situation correctly. -- Chong An Sunim https://youtu.be/aQ9gbmWaI3g
