Which mountain are you climbing?
Today I am sharing with you a powerful essay by columnist David Brooks of The New Your Times. I believe that what this essay suggests is what needs to happen for us to make the paradigm shift into a better world for us all. OZS represents and fosters the second mountain.
"On the first mountain, personal freedom is celebrated — keeping your options open, absence of restraint. But the perfectly free life is the unattached and unremembered life. Freedom is not an ocean you want to swim in; it is a river you want to cross so that you can plant yourself on the other side."

Our individualistic culture inflames the ego and numbs the spirit. Failure teaches us who we are.

Wednesday Evening Meditation Practice
The doors open at 6:30 pm and the practice session begins promptly at 7:00 pm with the chanting of the Heart Sutra. We sit in meditation (zazen) for twenty-five minutes, do walking meditation for five minutes, and another twenty-five minutes of sitting. After the last sitting, we serve tea, have a brief Dharma talk and discussion related to our practice. We usually finish up by 8:30 pm.
